The Inconvenience of Convenience

I don't know about anyone else (well actually I do) but I have been waiting for months for my little DBS internet banking token. Apparantly I "misplaced" the earlier one (and by "misplaced", I mean I never received it but had to give the girl on the telephone a reason acceptable to her) and after several long weeks, I finally got something bulky in the post.

So I rip it open and a little box falls out. And I rip the box open and a little token falls out. At lasssssst.

Grabbed the box, brought it to work, logged in so that I could do some convenient online banking.

Only to find that I need to register my token. Using a cunning little password .... only found in the letter in the envelope in the dustbin ... at home.

AAARRGGH!

Told the girl on the helpline that I had binned the note that came with the box that came with the token. In this electronic day and age, how can a piece of paper possibly be of any significance? Seems I will get a new letter, but I have to wait another week (or ten).

Perhaps we could wind back the clock and use thumbprints and queuelines at the bank again. I could do with less of this internet banking that always ends up with me on the phone with the bank asking for directions from some random person who will ask me for all sorts of personal and confidential information before she tells me that she cannot tell me my password. Now that's irony.

Banks and tokens, ggrrrr...

I fought with OCBC about finding out why I couldn't transfer foreign currencies around within my own accounts. They said that I needed to some form of 2FA (a click-token or an applet on my GPRS phone) before they could tell me about this function. And that I needed my passport for ID before they could give me the token or the applet.

As I was leaving for 3 weeks and didn't have my passport on me that day, I eventually came back last week, passport in hand. They started the procedure to get my 2FA and only then would they tell me that ***NO***, I can't transfer between my foreign currency accounts over the internet. In the mean time the Aussie dollar has gone up 4c on the USD and I have lost the opportunity to make a potential AUD$8,000 on the exchange rate just by putting all my cashed-up funds into AUD as I was planning to do three weeks ago. That's about 2 years of interest rate earnings I could have made in three weeks. And started earning interest as well! If I had known I couldn't do it on the internet I would have done it in the bank then and there!

Sigh. If I transfer it all now, of course the AUD will drop back 6c out of spite and I'll lose $12,000.

Singapore Banks...GGGrrrr...

With HSBC in Hong Kong you can transfer foreign exchange during normal banking hours on the internet without a hassle. I thought this was supposed to be a free port and all that?

that's not the end. after logging in, i tried to transfer money, and apparently you have to APPLY to do so as well. upon application each time you want to transfer money, they will send you a password, which you would have to enter before they allow you to transfer the cash.

e@l - i changed all my excess AUD back into SGD today. hehehehehehe. i was pleasantly surprised.

smootie - i was lucky. i registered the gadget immediately after opening the envelope. hence, the letter was still in my bin. crumpled into a ball but still there. had i done it the following day, i woulda suffered a similar fate.

Opt to keep inside a awesome atmosphere. Scorching and humid environment could worsen the problem.
Software of ice packs and mild cortisone creams may also
help to ease the discomfort.

I don't really obtain the pet spend surprising. Many pet focused businesses over the last decade are actually extremely successful. My mom posseses an old business colleague that started a skin care line for dogs, and she is swimming in their millions. Amazing. I spent my money and efforts on my three angels and hubby. My poor dogs were once more omitted.
