My Son Goes To School With Hannibal

So there was a minor commotion at Suntec this afternoon, when The Husband told me that The Son got bit by one of his classmates in school. Apparantly there was a discussion next to the hamster cage that did not end well. And by 'minor commotion', I mean that I kept my complete and absolute rage to a simmering and muffled minimum whilst I planned my revenge on the 2-year old girl who had the unmitigated temerity to sink her teeth into my son's arm. Yes, the same arm that I spent 9.5 months making all nice and cute. IT'S MY ARM.

According to reports, Little Ms Hannibal got timed out and was reprimanded by the teachers. Well I'll show her time out. Tomorrow morning I'm going to be right there when she arrives at the centre and I'm going to teach school. What's the big deal - those are just milk teeth and they was going to come out anyway. I'm helping her save on dental fees. Also, I'm not to blame if I smack her right across the head while waving goodbye to my son. Kids that small - them's to blame for getting in the way.

That child's parent has 1 working day to come up with an apology, is all I have to say.

Do you think you are being a tad too overprotective?

I agree. When are you going to let him stand on your own two legs?

Whoa, hang on there. While I've generally liked your funny entries, but if this is one of your humourous moments, it's not funny anymore...

Kids need to learn for themselves how to get though situations like that. At worse, teach your son to punch her in the face in retaliation next time, but never, never, NEVER, should you try to manhandle a 2-year old yourself and impose your own brand of vigilante justice!

If it's a kid who didn't know any better, you would still have the heart to treat her the same?

Wow. I agree with all the comments. If you don't want your son to get scratched/kicked/punched/slapped around/knocked in the head/bitten by other kids his age, then you should just keep him at home (for the rest of his life).

I know how you feel; I'm a mother too and my almost 3 year-old daughter has been scratched and hit by the other kids an uncountable number of times at day care. We, mothers, are like wolves protecting their cubs -- try biting a wolf cub in front of his mother and you'll see what I mean. But since we are not animals but human beings, with, hopefully, rational minds, we can see that kids that young will often NOT seriously injure another child: even wolf mums look the other way when they see one cub bite and wrestle another cub -- it builds confidence in the playground.

Wow. I had no idea so many people read this blog. Was pretty surprised and flattered when I woke up this morning.

Given the stiff penalties for assault and battery, of course I have no intention of beating the pulp out of some little kid but I needed to work off a good head of steam, i.e. purpose of this blog.

Anyway, I got a rather nice apology letter this morning from the girl's mother, so all is well.

In other news, I am signing up The Son for martial arts classes as soon as he is ready.
