There's Gold in Them-Thar Hills

My son has turned into a snotsicle. He caught a weaker version of my flu and his nose has been stuffed for almost a week now. He also snores.

The husband and I took a peek into his nostrils yesterday and were horrified to discover that they were completely plugged up. So I held his flailing little fat arms down while the husband attempted to extricate little baby boogers without success. Then it was my turn to give it a shot.

If you had told me this time last year that I would be valiantly digging someone else's nose with the enthusiasm of a little pig searching for truffles I would have run screaming. As it stands, the only person screaming yesterday was my son and at top volume. You would've thought those things were connected to his brain stem, by the way he was carrying on. And who would've thought that the person whose nose I'd be digging would be so ungrateful?

If anyone out there has a better method of snot removal, I'd certainly like to hear it. I'd use my US$25 tweezerman but given the size of the baby nostrils I'd have to use the smallest (and sharpest) so no way, too dangerous. Also, I'd probably never be able to get the stuff off my tweezers and would have to write them off which would be a CRIME.

this ain't tried and tested but going by imagination of your little one's nostril size, how about a coupla packets of (large sized) cotton buds? will take a long time, but they absorb better than tweezer-like contraptions!

can even moisten with diluted vicks-type for dried boogers.

yeah tweezers sound unnecessarily dangerous, and besides, tweezermans are amazing. don't waste those puppies

OH. I forget. OH. I'm remembering now....SUCK THE DAMN THINGS OUT?! Did that advice not come from - ? Cow. Coward Cow with a capital "C". Do it. But seriously, tweezers worked perfectly for me. They grab everything perfectly. You know what else works perfectly? Ear-diggers. (do they hv a proper name?) Ya, those ear-diggers are superb. Just be careful not to scrape too hard. Lest you do, he'll just bleed a bit and hate you for a bit. No biggie.

I hate to say this, but the safest and shiokest method to get them gooey slimy snort out is to use your little finger (Warning: NOT Dad's though - way too stumpy for any use). Unfortunately with this method, when they do get more dexterous, you'd be begging them to stop picking their noses anywhere and everywhere.

2 methods; I've tried both...

1st. As Gremlin suggested.. suck them out. Make sure you use one hand to open Machineboy's mouth.. then place your lins and suck. Not too sudden and not too hard... then ... don't forget to spit.. and not swallow... :o)

2nd. Use this nasal spray.. can't remember the name.. by i think it's filled with saline. Bought it from Guardian the last time.. after you spray it up his nose, it'll start to run, and out comes everything. Clean up and repeat if necessary.

Whoah, the sucking method?? Hullo??!! i love my kid, but there are certain lines i will not cross!! Use a cotton square, wet it slightly and roll it into a stick like shape. then slowly twist it up the poor boys nose. boogers will definitely come out! using tweezers or even an ear digger, as Gremlin suggests is just SCARY! hey, we want to get out the boogers and not his eye ball, right???
