Let them eat cake

So of late (and by late, I mean, like, 3 months ago) I've had an incredibly huge craving for chocolate cake. And by chocolate cake, I mean specifically and only the Rum and Cherry Chocolate Cake from Awfully Chocolate. As introduced to me by Macaloony the undisputed Queen of the Dessert.

So about once a week now, I either traipse down to their shop in Republic Plaza or I beg someone to do it for me. Same thing happens each time.

MayIHepchYou?

Yes. 1 Rum and Cherry Chocolate Cake please.

You want candles with that?

No. It's just for me.

Then the counter girl will give me this contemptuous little glance just as she's punching the numbers into the cash register. It speaks volumes. Yesss, it says. And you were here last week. And the week before that. And the cakes were all for you too...

Just 2 days ago, I managed to get the number of this random woman who makes the best fresh cream and mango cakes I've ever tasted. To escape the chocolate humiliation, I called her (she works from her home) and placed an order.

So what message you want on the cake?

What?

Is it for a birthday?

No.

You want how many candles?

No candles. It's just for me....

  2. At least that's not heaty!!!!

After eating chocolate cake every day of last week, some days twice, I am now so heaty that I have a permanent sore throat. Also complexion not doing so great.

Collected the mango cake before I finished the choc cake in my office fridge. Plus a guest brought another choc cake (same flavour) to my house on Sat night.

So I have 1 choc cake and 1 mango cake in the home fridge, and 1 choc cake in the office fridge. Just thinking about it gives me a nosebleed.

  3. Hey Smoot :o)

Perhaps the path of least resistance would be to accept the candles, no?

  4. I think accepting candles every week would be most amusing for the people in the shop.

And that chocolate cake WAS very nice thenchouvellymarch...

I'll have try to get another invite to try the random woman's mango ones...

As they say in Japan, don't touch my mango!

  6. Hey we're always happy to host dinner parties at our house. It's much easier than trying to integrate The Son into an alien environment where we may have to pay for breakages. PC, you're more than welcome!

The mango cake was a little disappointing, although my mom, sister and mom's maid think it's the bee's knees. Not enough fresh mango and fresh cream. I have to place another order with her, but with special requirements this time.

If E@L prefers, I'll even put a little vegemite in each slice :)

  7. Can actually set up a play "date" for our 2 boys.. we have a play room specially designed to contain the potential damage! :o)

With the toys.. guaranteed assimilation. If you guys are game.. I can fixed us a few pizzas (hawaiian, sausage.. and other odd concoctions :o) )... faux apple turnover (done with a bread base). Alternatively, we could always eat cake :o)
