Chilli

... have a terrible craving for chilli, belachan, anything that will burn my tongue off.

Also chocolate.

Think I need a shot of the mexican chilli chocolate drink from Max Brenner.

Mmmmmmmmmm...sambal belchan. Although the hubby loves everything spicy eg habernero peppers, he doesn't care for the taste nor smell of belchan. Suppose that's the ang moh in him. Guess it's like MM and you when it comes to durians. BTW, I remember how Butimonholiday, Yokum and you used to squat in a circle in my livingroom over a heap of durian shells stuffing your faces. Talk about unshakeable visuals....

  6. No, I am not pregnant again. I don't think my body can get it together so soon...

Have discovered that one level above sambal belachan is ASSAM sambal belachan and if it's done right, you can eat anything with it and it still tastes good. Burn your tongue right off, and put the hair back on your chest, but it will still taste FANTASTIC.

To appreciate it requires a different sense of taste though. It's called umami. For us the added kick comes from the prawn paste which I recall didn't go down so well with the Canadians last time I visited ...

  9. That's the scientific name for the taste in seafood which people go crazy for, and which isn't salty or sweet or sour or whatever. It's like, a new taste for a new generation!
